Executive Committee and Board of Directors
The ASBSD Board of Directors consists of 18 Region Directors elected to four-year terms. ASBSD Region Directors are elected both from a geographic region and a school size category. A five-member executive committee may meet in the interim to discuss emerging issues facing the organization.

Duane Alm - ASBSD President
Duane Alm, Aberdeen, has been a member of the ASBSD Board of Directors since 2003. In additon to his leadership role with ASBSD, Alm has two terms on the National School Boards Association's Policy and Resolutions Committee. He is a retired educator and served as a teacher, administrator and consultant during his 42-year career in public educaiton. |

Susan Humiston - ASBSD 1st Vice President
Susan Humiston, Edgemont, has been a member of the ASBSD Board of Directors since 1997, and previously served on the ASBSD Executive Committee from 1999 to 2002. Humiston also serves on the Board of Directors for the Black Hills Special Services Cooperative. She owns and operates a day care in Edgemont. |

Neil Putnam - ASBSD 2nd Vice President
Neil Putnam, Mitchell, has been a member of the ASBSD Board of Directors since 2006. Putnam also fills leadership roles for numerous civic and professional organizations, including his tenure as an officer for the South Dakota City Planners Association. He is the city planner for Mitchell, and is a former U.S. Congressional staff member. |

LeRoy Hellwig - ASBSD Past President
LeRoy Hellwig, Sisseton, has been a member of the ASBSD Board of Directors, and previously served on the ASBSD Executive Committee from 1994 to 1998. Hellwig has served as President of the Sisseton Chamber of Commerce and ias a past director for the state chamber of commerce. He is a rancher, raising buffalo, and operates a livestock sale barn. |

Wayne Lueders - ASBSD Executive Director
Dr. Wayne J. Lueders joined ASBSD in 2004 after serving in serveral leadership capacities during his 31 years with the Iowa Association of School Boards. As a member of the Lighthouse Inquiry research team, Dr. Lueders played an integral role in developing a research-based model for the school board's role in student achievement. |
